In the early hours of today, there was a protest by students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri due to the hike in fees, and the penalty for failure to meet the deadline for payment. The protest which was supposed to be peaceful turned out violent, wreaking havoc to the school's property. The consequence of this is the decision of the school management to shut down the school indefinitely. Students in the hostels were ordered to vacate the premises before 4pm today or face the wrath of security operaives. It would be recalled that during the protest earlier today, students destroyed the school's property, and looted the school's ICT centre. It would also be recalled that the school management placed an extra charge of #10,000 as fine for anyone who fails to completely pay his tuition fees before the deadline. The pictures below show some of the aftermath of the protest.
